Spend Father's Day with the Father of Our Country! Visitors get a special chance to meet the Father of our Country. George Washington hosts guests for questions and photographs. The General will give a special performance "Father to the First Family" at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. in Mount Vernon's Little Theater. At the George Washington: Pioneer Farmer site, children can take part in a special storytelling session with Aesop’s fables and stories from George Washington’s life at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Also on the estate, visitors can view a replica of the Liberty Bell on display through July 4. Admission to George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill is FREE with estate admission for all fathers. At the Gristmill, a 16-foot waterwheel powers the giant gears and millstones of Washington's remarkable mill that includes the only operating Oliver Evans Automated Milling System in America. The Evans system won U.S. Patent No. 3 and helped to make the gristmill at Mount Vernon a commercial success. Demonstrations of the mill are given by millers in early-American attire. Stone ground cornmeal produced on site is available at the Gristmill Shop. With a purchased ticket to Mount Vernon, fathers visiting the estate will receive complimentary admission to George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill.
