Amazing Race at Mount Vernon

An Amazing Finale, By George!

In the latest season of The Amazing Race, the three final teams battled to be the first to cross the finish line—and claim the $1 million prize—on the east lawn of Mount Vernon, overlooking the Potomac River.

The season finale of the wildly popular CBS reality series was filmed at George Washington’s estate in December 2012. The Amazing Race is considered one of television’s most successful reality shows, taking home “Best Reality Series” Emmy awards in nine of the ten past years and reaching a global audience of more than 80 million. The finale aired May 5.

The Amazing Race is an Emmy Award-winning reality show hosted by host Phil Keoghan, which pits 11 teams against each other on a trek around the world for approximately 25 days. At every destination, each team must compete in a series of challenges, some mental and some physical, and only when the tasks are completed will they learn of their next location. Teams who are the farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination winning $1 million.
