Ceremony to Include 150 Purple Heart Recipients on August 7


MOUNT VERNON, VA
– George Washington’s Mount Vernon and members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will celebrate its official National Purple Heart Day Ceremony on the east lawn overlooking the Potomac River with more than 150 Purple Heart recipients on August 7 at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony includes remarks by Mount Vernon’s President Curt Viebranz, “General Washington,” and Gordon Sumner, Commander, Greater Washington D.C. Chapter 353 Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Medal of Honor recipient Captain Florent Groberg of the United States Army will give the keynote address. Music for the ceremony is provided by the U.S. Marine Corps Band Brass Quintet. A special wreath will be on view at the Purple Heart Memorial, located outside of the entrance to the estate.

This event is included in general admission to the estate. Admission is not required to visit the Purple Heart Memorial. For more information, visit www.mountvernon.org/purpleheartday.
