The Manager of General Accounting reports to the Chief Financial Officer, and is responsible for all financial statement, general ledger and accounts payable activities. The individual is also responsible for ensuring appropriate internal controls, both within the Finance department and within the rest of the organization
Specific Qualifications include:
• Bachelors Degree in Accounting
• Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role
Position: Staff Accountant
Department: Finance
The Staff Accountant reports to the Manager of General Accounting, and is responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling and analyzing general ledger accounts, and understanding and maintaining internal controls.
Specific Qualifications include:
• Bachelors Degree in Accounting
• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, including bank and account reconciliation work in an automated systems environment
General Qualifications for both positions include:
• Excel proficiency
• Must be organized, analytical, accurate, detail-oriented, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and able to complete work assignments in a timely manner
• Must have good communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Must interact with others at all levels in a courteous, professional manner
• Previous experience in an automated accounting environment is required; experience with Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) is helpful
• Previous experience with fund accounting is helpful

Development Assistant: reports to Manager, Membership and is charged with providing administrative support functions in the Development Office.
Specific responsibilities:
Answer dept. calls and inquiries; Record actions in “RE DB”; Filing; Direct requests from
staff, prospective guests, and potential and current donors / members including “concierge” type projects; Support special events and prep for board meetings; Various Data Entry responsibilities including maintenance and tracking of donor / member programs and events: Update, maintain online membership calendar; act as back up for departmental
data entry of contributions; Assist in processing and mailing membership notices; enhance departmental collaboration; record minutes for various meetings, committee functions and support groups; work as liaison w/other MVLA depts. to coordinate donor needs; Other duties as assigned.

This Full-time position requires a minimum of five years experience. The Groundskeeper performs routine grounds maintenance to Estate grounds, gardens, roads, woods, walks, paths, and property lines. Candidates must be able to perform routine lawn maintenance according to turf management program, perform tree and shrub planting, and assist gardeners with weeding, harvesting, and seed collection. Operation of farm and turf equipment is also required. This position is classified as essential and must participate in all emergencies, ice and snow removal, and special events. Requirements:

Title: Flower Gardiner

The flower gardener will be responsible for all aspects of garden maintenance in Mount Vernon’s Flower Garden. Responsible for garden maintenance through the proper planting, pruning, fertilizing, seed collecting and pest control, of Mount Vernon’s exhibition gardens. Performs routine maintenance including raking, weeding and cultivating. Will work outside in all types of weather and requires use of hand and small gas powered equipment. May work both independently and with other members of the Horticulture team as needed to maintain the high standards of Mount Vernon’s Gardens and Grounds. Participation in all emergencies, including ice and snow removal, is required. Some holiday and weekend work.
Degree in Horticulture or related field or Master Gardener certificate plus 2-4 years of hands on experience with pruning of trees and shrubs. Knowledge and experience with propagation, planting, pruning, fertilization and IPM. Must have a Virginia Registered Technician pesticide license or obtain one within 6 months of hire.
